Garnet – the perfect way to start the year! This beautiful stone is the birthstone for January and is said to be a symbol of friendship and trust. Commonly red, but it can actually be found in an array of colours, garnet is also said to have the power to give the wearer eternal happiness, health and wealth – we could all do with some of that so why not give some garnet jewellery to your best friend and share the love!
The garnet is an extremely durable birthstone and measurers 6.5-7.5 on the Mohs scale - making this one of the harder gemstones. Although a hard gemstone, and stable to light and chemicals, they can easily be attacked by hydrofluoric acid so it is advisable to only wash your garnet gemstones with warm soapy water.
